Harald has been working as a professional photographer for more than a decade. His photos have been published throughout the world in major magazines and newspapers including The New York Times, Newsweek International, Stern, Business Week, People, Scientific American, New York Magazine, The Washington Times and Science et Avenir. He has also worked for clients like Foster's Wine Estates, the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and United Nations Volunteers.

His photos of the events of September 11, 2001 have been included in the book Here is New York and exhibited on three continents, including at the International Center of Photography (ICP). Harald was a correspondent at the United Nations in New York for the photo agency SIPA Press for several years and is currently based in Berlin, Germany.
